HearthByte
Weekend game experiment exploring a spatial interface for AI agents: walk up, assign tasks, and receive results in-world.
HearthByte started as a weekend experiment: I had never built a game before and wanted to test what it would feel like to interact with AI agents inside a virtual world.
Core idea
Instead of chatting in a terminal or web UI, you walk up to an agent in-game, give it a task, and get the result back in the same world.
I explored interactions like:
- Assigning tasks directly to an agent NPC
- Letting agents report back in-world
- Delivering results as in-game items
- Treating virtual spaces (for example an office) as execution contexts
Why it mattered
This was a fun prototype, but it proved a useful point for me: integrating AI agents into game-style environments is technically feasible and opens a different interaction model than chat-only tools.
